Australian Honours

Royal Life Saving Society - Australia is committed to recognising the efforts of its dedicated volunteers and their role in educating people throughout Australia in water safety, survival, rescue, resuscitation and first aid techniques in an effort to reduce injury and loss of life through drowning.

Nominations are called for Honour and Awards to be presented to volunteers for their service to the Society in helping to promote life saving and water safety throughout their local communities. Contact your State or Territory Member Organisation if you want further details on the process of nomination.

Australian Service Awards - Volunteers

Certificate of Thanks
Recognise significant contribution of an individual/club/school/organisation as instructors, examiners or committee members.

President's Award
Recognise the service/contributions of organisations to the operation of The Royal Life Saving Society Australia.

Associate RLSSA
Six years involvement with noteworthy service as an instructor, examiner or committee member.

Fellow RLSSA
10 years involvement with high level of service as an instructor, examiner or committee member.

Companion RLSSA
14 years involvement with outstanding service as an instructor, examiner representative or committee member.

Australian Meritorious Service Medal
15 years service with meritorious service as an instructor, examiner representative or committee member.

Life Member
18 years service with outstanding service as an instructor, examiner representative or committee member to National/State/Territory Branch.

Life Governor
Minimum 22 years exemplary service, available to those who have already been awarded Life Member.

Recognise specific individual efforts of a past or present professional officer or member of staff

Australian Service Order
5 years involvement as past/present officer/staff of National, State or Sub-branches of RLSSA.

Australian Long Service Order
10 years involvement as past/present officer/staff of National, State or Sub-branches of RLSSA.

Australian Meritorious Service Order
15 years involvement as past/present officer/staff of National, State or Sub-branches RLSSA.

Australian Meritorious Service Order
20 years involvement as past/present officer/staff of National, State or Sub-branches RLSSA.

Bravery Awards

Bravery Awards are given to any person who undertakes a rescue or an attempted rescue in an aquatic environment. Nominations should be forwarded to respective State and Territory Member Organisations as soon as possible following the incident.

Australian Bravery Awards

President's Commendation
For undertaking a rescue or attempted rescue.

Rescue Medal
For undertaking a rescue or attempted rescue in an aquatic environment under extreme or difficult circumstances.

Bravery Cross
For undertaking a rescue or attempted rescue in an aquatic environment under circumstances that endanger the life of the rescuer.
