Grey Medallion Program in Tasmania

The Tasmanian branch of the Royal Life Saving Society will be conducting the Grey Medallion water safety and lifesaving skills program at over 20 swimming pools throughout Tasmania from mid January 2009.

The program runs for 10 weeks and endeavours to teach participants a range of personal survival techniques, provide them with skills to deal with an emergency situation and to develop confidence and competence to enjoy aquatic exercise and other water based activity safely.

There are four main components of the program:

  • Water Safety Knowledge
  • Resuscitation and Emergency Care
  • Aquatic Exercise
  • Personal Survival and Lifesaving Skills

The Grey Medallion program is funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund and has been endorsed by the Tasmanian Premier's Physical Activity Council. The program has been well received by councils state-wide who will promote this important initiative in their local newsletters. Other marketing activity includes television and radio advertising and well as articles in senior's magazines and newspapers.
