Senator the Hon Mark Arbib, Minister for Sport launched the RLS National Drowning Report 2011 at Parliament House, Canberra. The report revealed that 315 people drowned in the past 12 months with drowning deaths at their highest level since 2003 having jumped by 11% when compared to the 5 year avg.
