New Representatives Announced for the National Sport Committee

Australian Pool Life Saving Championships

Royal Life Saving is pleased to announce the introduction of three new positions to the National Sport Committee in 2019 including Coach Representative, Official Representative and Athlete Representative.

The following individuals have been appointed as representatives:

  • Coach Representative: Jeannie Baxter-Reid
  • Official Representative: Roz Grey
  • Athlete Representative: Jake Smith

The new positions will be in addition to existing State and Territory representation on the Committee, providing a voice for RLSSA’s sport community and the National Office and Sport Committee with technical expertise and guidance in the areas of pool lifesaving coaching, officiating and athlete development from a grass roots to elite and international level.

Coach Representative, Jeannie Baxter-Reid brings three decades of experience to the role. She has been passionately involved in pool life saving for over 30 years as a coach and manager at a club, school, state, national and international level.

Roz Grey first obtained her qualification as a pool lifesaving official in 1970 and has volunteered as a State, National, and International Pool Lifesaving Championships official to date, also acting as a mentor for competitors and officials alike.

Jake Smith has competed in pool lifesaving since the age of 12 and in 2018 Jake was selected as a member of the 2018 Australian Life Saving Team. Jake has recently taken on the role of coaching youth athletes, and was instrumental in the formation of the West Life Saving WA club (WLS) to help provide a participation pathway that provides opportunities for lifesavers from community to elite level.

The National Sport Committee will work together to support Royal Life Saving’s sport community and guide the development of sport participation initiatives, fostering pool lifesaving as a vehicle for skills and leadership development across the swimming, lifesaving and water safety pathway.

The National Sport Committee has recently announced the 2020 Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships will take place from Friday 10– Sunday 12 January at HBF Stadium, Perth. Find out more here.
