AUSTRALIAN POOL LIFESAVING CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO SYDNEY IN 2022
Royal Life Saving Society – Australia (RLSSA) are pleased to announce the Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships will return to the lifesaving sport calendar in 2022, following their cancellation in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Championships will take place from the 11th to 13th June at Pymble Ladies College in Sydney, NSW.
The Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships provide an opportunity for lifesavers from across the country to put their skills, fitness and initiative to the test over three days of events that simulate real lifesaving situations and aquatic emergencies. Events include the Manikin Carry, Manikin Tow, Line Throw, Obstacle Swim, CPR Competition and the Simulated Emergency Response Competition (SERC) – showcasing the overall physical and technical ability of individuals and teams that vie for Championship awards.
National Sport Adviser, Geoff Grey said that after the widespread disruption to sport caused by the COVID pandemic, it is exciting to welcome old and new faces back to the pool, at an exceptional facility that will no doubt set the stage for a successful competition after hosting the Championships in 2019.
“The Championships are a highlight of the year for Royal Life Saving members and the broader swimming and lifesaving community. Not only do the Championships provide an opportunity to showcase the sport of pool lifesaving – it’s a time to celebrate the skills, expertise and dedication of our members, and their contribution to lifesaving in Australia and abroad."
Andrew Bowden, Chair of Royal Life Saving NSW's (RLSNSW) Club and Competition Committee and Australian Lifesaving Team Pool Coach said that after 18 months in waiting, RLSNSW is looking forward to hosting the upcoming Championships at a unique time of year from its traditional spot in January.
"As an athlete, over the years the APLSC has always provided an opportunity to race at a high level against Australia's best; each year I learned new and improved skills and techniques from the elite competitors, who are always keen to coach and mentor the younger talent coming through. The Champs have been a great opportunity to meet and build lifelong friendships with other competitors, officials and supporters from around Australia, so we're excited to have the pool lifesaving community back together in NSW, competing and having fun."
