Royal Life Saving Society - Australia and Australian Physiotherapy Association have partnered to deliver the newly updated Hydrotherapy Rescue Award, designed specifically for practitioners working in aquatic environments.

Developed in collaboration with experienced aquatic physiotherapists, the course has been refreshed to reflect current practice, clinical relevance and real-world application. It provides a practical, evidence-informed approach to managing safety and responding to incidents in hydrotherapy settings.

The Hydrotherapy Rescue Award is suitable for practitioners working across a range of environments, including hospitals, aged care, community and rehabilitation facilities. It supports safer aquatic environments for both practitioners and patients through the development of essential rescue and response skills.

By the end of the course, learners will gain a clear understanding of:

  • The regulatory environment and key guidelines that apply to aquatic physiotherapists
  • Screening processes and aquatic risk management considerations relevant to hydrotherapy practice
  • Core principles and techniques for aquatic rescue and patient extraction
  • The basic life support process and its application in hydrotherapy settings
  • Requirements for incident reporting and the purpose of structured debriefing
