Royal Life Saving was established in South Australia in 1909, operating statewide in schools, pools and beaches, but since 1952 concentrated on inland situations and on it's teaching role - Classes, workshops etc. with the goal of reducing the drowning rate to zero, but patrols and lifeguarding services were also provided.
The Royal Life Saving Society SA runs all year round - especially with it's delivery of Workplace First Aid and Resuscitation Courses to Industrial, Commercial, Governmental Institutional Groups, and Individuals.
Water-related instruction is provided at a number of heated pools all year round, and at others during the swimming season.
Many schools include lifesaving programs in their curriculum, and during the school holidays.
