Royal Life Saving Society – Australia seeking to appoint two independent directors

Background

Royal Life Saving Society – Australia is seeking to appoint two independent directors to join its board to contribute to the effective and strategic governance of the national organisation.

Royal Life Saving is a leading national peak body for drowning prevention and water safety, with more than 125 years of service to the Australian community. It facilitates efforts to reduce drowning and increase swimming, water safety and lifesaving skills across the Australian community. We actively support the Australian Water Safety Strategy 2030.

A not-for-profit organisation, Royal Life Saving works with a network of State and Territory Member Organisations, and through partnerships with Government, the aquatic industry and other water safety related bodies.

The board consists of eight directors appointed by State and Territory members, and up to three directors appointed by the board. It recently elected an independent director (Dr Mitch Hartman) to the position of Chair/President.

Criteria

We are committed to evidence and stakeholder informed advocacy, campaigns, and research. We are focused on cross sectoral leadership to create and influence change.

We are working to strengthen the impact of partnerships with government at all levels, other like-minded bodies, the private sector, and our members.

We are seeking directors with strong alignment to these approaches.

Royal Life Saving is seeking directors who can add professional and/or lived experiences from communities across regional areas, from diverse cultural backgrounds, and with experience working with children and youth.

Experience and/or qualifications in corporate governance will also be highly valued.

Process

Expressions of interest are sought from experienced and/or aspiring directors who share this commitment to good governance, making a difference and valuing diversity.

Expressions of interest, with a cover letter, short statement and CV can be lodged via board@rlssa.org.au no later than 6pm AEST Wednesday 15th December 2021

Enquiries can be made via the Company Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Justin Scarr on 0408 434 011, or jscarr@rlssa.org.au.

Candidates will be shortlisted and reviewed by the Royal Life Saving Nominations Committee. Follow-up discussions and interviews will be conducted by the President Dr Mitch Hartman and Nominations Committee representative Ms Pene Snashall.

Please note this is a volunteer role, and directors are not paid for their time. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will be recommended for appointment by the Board early in 2022.
