Royal Life Saving is developing and implementing a range of training options to fulfil the growing need for training options that enhance career pathways and general levels of skill.
Royal Life Saving currently offers the Pool Operations course to assist industry bodies in meeting their obligations to industry best practice. This course is only one in a series of new programs that Royal Life Saving will be offering to industry.
Description
This course provides candidates with the knowledge and skills relevant to the supervision and operation of an aquatic facility, plant and associated equipment and the monitoring and maintaining of water quality. This course is the industry standard for pool supervisors.
Delivery Mode options
Delivery modes vary depending on your selected course and may include:
- Face-to-Face – Classroom based includes theory, practical instruction and assessment
- Flexible delivery – Self-paced pre-learning and classroom based delivery.
- On-line - Self-paced E-learning before attending a face-to-face practical assessment
Pre-requisites
Full course requires a current Royal Life Saving Pool Lifeguard certificate.Additional Requirements
On completion of the four (4) day program candidates are required to complete an "On-the Job" Workbook where access to an operational aquatic centre is required.
It is recommended that regular professional development to be undertaken to ensure the competency of knowledge and skills.
Content
This course involves theory and practical components including:
- Pool maintenance
- Filtration systems
- Developing maintenance programs
- Water monitoring
- Equipment operation
- Routine water testing safe chemical handling
- Implementing workplace policy and procedure
- Standards and legislation
- Disinfection procedures
- Risk analysis
- Responding to emergencies
During the training program there will be a number of site visits to aquatic centres. These visits are critical to the learning outcomes of the training program. They provide a valuable insight into the various types of plant and equipment utilised in aquatic facilities.

Successful candidates will receive a:
- Royal Life Saving Pool Operations Certificate

Pathway
Units may go towards a credit in a Certificate III in Aquatics from the SIS10 National Sport,Fitness and Recreation Training Package.
