Case for Change for Sport and Recreation and Aquatic and Community Recreation Training Package to be put forward
SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Sport and Recreation Industry Reference Committee, is looking to undertake a comprehensive update of Sport and Recreation and Aquatic and Community Recreation qualifications included in the SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package.
Skills IQ, citing that the current training packages “are no longer fit for purpose” are suggesting that the factors that are triggering a request to change the key competencies of key training packages are:
- Industry and policy reform in the sport and recreation and water safety program environment
- Changes in health and safety practices and program delivery opportunities due to COVID-19 pandemic
- Recreation management and aquatic management changes since 2015 including employment frameworks and evolving technologies in plant and equipment
- Skills shortages and a lack of clear career progression both within the sector and transitioning to other sectors
- The length of time since the last full review of these qualifications.
The six qualifications included in this case for change are:
- SIS10115 Certificate I in Sport and Recreation
- SIS20115 Certificate II in Sport and Recreation
- SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation
- SIS31015 Certificate III in Aquatics and Community Recreation
- SIS40115 Certificate IV in Sport and Recreation
- SIS50115 Diploma of Sport and Recreation Management.
