The River Murray Water Safety Group includes representatives from:

  • Berri Barmera Council
  • Coorong Council
  • Department for Infrastructure and Transport – Marine Safety SA
  • Discovery Holiday Parks – Lake Bonney
  • District Council of Loxton Waikerie

  • Renmark Paringa Council
  • Royal Life Saving Society – Australia

  • South Australia Police (SAPOL)
  • Surf Life Saving South Australia

With a shared purpose of eliminating drowning in the River Murray, the group continues to strengthen its local approach to water safety.

The group has developed a localised water safety strategy that aligns with both the Australian Water Safety Strategy and the South Australian Water Safety Plan. The recent meeting showcased how this place-based strategy is driving tangible outcomes, including:

  • Enhanced data sharing between agencies
  • Greater community awareness and engagement
  • Integration of training programs across jurisdictions
  • Strategic deployment of water safety assets
  • And a reinforced culture of collaboration and collective action

As the group looks ahead, its efforts will focus on implementing these solutions where they are most needed - on the ground, in the water, and within local communities across the Riverland region.
