In its latest initiative to advance and strengthen the national aquatic industry workforce, Royal Life Saving proudly announces the launch of a new online module, 'Supervision Planning'. This innovative resource builds upon Royal Life Saving’s longstanding commitment to workforce development and lifting safety stands within the aquatic sector.

Designed to significantly enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals responsible for creating supervision plans at aquatic facilities, the 'Supervision Planning' module enables learners to augment their existing knowledge and competencies.

Targeting facility venue managers, operational leadership, duty managers, and experienced pool lifeguards, the module translates into practical scenarios and assessments the information contained within the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO) – Aquatic Supervision Planning section, guiding users through the essential processes and components necessary for devising a supervision plan tailored to the unique requirements of their facility.

Shaun Jackson, Royal Life Saving’s National Manager - Training and Workforce Development, said a detailed understanding of the supervision planning process and honing those planning skills is critical.

“Effective, vigilant Lifeguard supervision is a critical component in ensuring patron safety at every aquatic facility. This module not only bolsters knowledge relating to planning for effective lifeguard supervision but also ensures that the structural and systemic supports for such supervision are robust and reliable,” Jackson explains.

Acknowledging the complexities of supervision planning, the module covers an array of considerations including facility design, environmental conditions, available resources, swimmer demographics, and the myriad activities hosted by the facility. It aims to integrate supervision planning seamlessly into a broader safety management system, addressing potential vulnerabilities by considering all relevant factors.

Royal Life Saving’s 'Supervision Planning' module is crafted to be highly visual and interactive, offering a practical and accessible format for learners. It guides participants through the foundational principles and steps in developing a lifeguard deployment strategy, using a mock facility as a case study. The learning experience, taking roughly 50 minutes to complete, is part of Royal Life Saving's comprehensive suite of Professional Development products, designed to enrich the aquatic industry workforce with essential skills and knowledge.

This initiative adds to Royal Life Saving’s impressive portfolio of online modules, including Lifeguard Advanced Supervision Skills, Swim Teaching for Participants on the Autism Spectrum, Teacher of Lifesaving, and several others focused on key areas like conflict management, cultural competence, and child safety.
