Flood crisis ongoing 2022

Royal Life Saving is deeply troubled by the unfolding flood crisis across both metropolitan and regional Victoria and New South Wales.

Flooding continues to have significant impacts across Australia with repercussions on communities and our friends in the aquatic industry up and down the East Coast and Tasmania.

Flooding remains a significant cause of drowning in Australia.

Aquatic facilities continue to function as relief centres throughout affected areas where able. Some are currently under water.

SAFETY TIPS TO STAY SAFE IN AND AROUND FLOODWATER:

  • Never drive through floodwaters
  • Never swim in flooded waters
  • Never ride on boogie/surf boards in floodwater
  • Wherever possible, wear a lifejacket when in, on or around floodwaters
  • If conducting a rescue, avoid entering water yourself
  • When swimming in natural waterways after floods be aware that conditions may have changed since you last swam there
  • After floods, always check the water before entry and enter slowly feet first
  • If a river level rises, go to safety as quickly as possible
